(宝冠章, Hōkan-shō) Institution Date: January 3, 1888 by Emperor Meiji. A Japanese Order of the Sacred Crown, VI Class. A silver gilt oval medallion with clusters of three enamelled cherry blossoms forming the four points of a star, center obverse presenting a silver gilt ancient Japanese Imperial Crown on an enamelled background, reverse plain. There is a blue enamelled wave crest suspension. The medal is accompanied by a bow ribbon and a rosette. The decoration measures at 39mm (w) x 62.9mm (h), and weighs 27.9 grams with a period bow ribbon and minor wear to the reverse, in extremely fine condition.
Presented in its original case of issue made from black velvet on the interior and with floral detailing on the exterior with red tassels, measures 100mm (w) x 125mm (h) x 30mm (d), light wear to edges and cracks present on lid, remains in very fine condition.
Footnote: This Order was established by Emperor Meiji. It is conferred in recognition of notable services. Originally it was awarded to Japanese and foreign women, and occasionally men. Now, it is conferred only upon members of the Imperial Family and foreign ladies of distinction.
