Instituted in 1875. Early Meiji Period. A II Class set of the Order of the Rising Sun, comprising a silver neck badge with white enamel and a dark red cabochon centrepiece, some stains on ribbon, inclusive of flower suspension 87.2 mm (h) x 55.3 mm (w), near mint condition. The II Class star of the Order, consisting of an eight-pointed silver star, with arms composed by clusters of three pebbled rays with polished frame, the obverse exhibiting an enamelled white gilt-framed symbol of the rising sun, featuring a typical central red glass cabochon, the reverse features a vertical pin flanked by dual stays, four rivets surrounding the central inscription to secure the medallion to the obverse, 91.31 mm (w) x 91.69 mm (h), evidence of staining to obverse silver rays, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order was instituted 4 October 1875 by Emperor Meiji. The Order of the Rising Sun is awarded to people who have rendered distinguished service to the state in various fields except military service.
