Somalia, Republic. An Order of the Somali Star, II Class Grand Officer Set

(Amarka Xiddiga Soomaaliyeed). Instituted in 1961. Grand Officer Badge: four-piece construction, in silver gilt with blue and white enamels, the adjoining suspension in silver gilt with blue and green enamels, each of the five points of the star with a ball finial, measuring 57 mm (w) x 85 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath suspension, chipping and crazing evident in the white enamels on the arm at 5 o'clock, on its original full-length neck ribbon; and Breast Star: five-piece construction, in silver gilt with blue and white enamels, the badge resting upon a base with twenty-four faceted emanating rays, maker marked "ARTURO POZZI GALLERIA COLONNA 12 ROMA" on the reverse cartouche, measuring 67 mm (w) x 77 mm (h), vertical pinback. Intact enamels, near extremely fine. Accompanied by their 13 mm wide rosette with button hole attachment, in their hardshelled case of issue, Somalia coat-of-arms in bronze with blue, white and green enamels affixed to the lid, inside lid in off-white satin, maker marked "A. Pozzi Galleria Colonna 12 Roma" and exhibiting the impressions of the Badge and Breast Star, base in light yellow and supporting a platform in yellow felt, with recessed medal beds for the Badge, Rosette and missing Miniature, along with being slotted for the Breast Star, measuring 139 mm (w) x 255 mm (h) x 39 mm (h), scuffing and discoloration evident on the exterior, case very fine.

Footnote: The Order of the Somali Star was instituted on February 12, 1961 and was awarded for merit in the service of Somalia, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
