Description

Instituted in 1874. In bronze gilt, insignia consists of a Star of David with a cross bottony in the center, each point finished with ball finials, mounted to an eight-pointed star base, reverse marked MADE IN ETHIOPIA B.A. SEVADJIANI, measuring 87.3 mm (w) x 88 mm (h), vertical pinback flanked by dual stays, extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order of the Seal of Solomon was founded by Emperor Yohannes IV in 1874 as the highest imperial honor, containing five grades. In 1930, an even higher Order was established, i.e. the Order of Solomon, which was a split off from the Order of the Seal of Solomon. The Order was conferred on members of the imperial house and upon persons who had rendered meritorious services.
