(Kiladat El Nil). Instituted in 1915 by Sultan Husain Kamil. (c. 1926). A cased Order of the Nile, Second Class Grand Officer Set, consisting of:
1. A Grand Officer Breast Badge, consisting of a silver star with ten multifaceted rays radiating from the center medallion, the obverse with a white enameled five-armed star with a silver gilt center inscribed in blue enamels topped by a silver gilt royal crown, the reverse plain with a tall barrel hinge, vertical hinge broken off, with a broad wire catch and two additional sharp retaining pins, marked “Lattes” for manufacture by J. Lattes of Cairo, as well as a Cairo assay mark and silver standard mark, as well as a cat (National Mark used between 1916 and 1946), and date marked “A” (1925-1926), measuring 80.0 mm (w) x 78.2 mm (l), weighing 84.50 grams, in extremely fine condition.
2. A Grand Officer Neck Badge, consisting of a silver star with ten multifaceted rays radiating from the center medallion, the obverse with a white enameled five-armed star with a silver gilt center inscribed in blue enamels, on a swivel loop and crown suspension from its period original neck ribbon, the reverse plain, marked “Lattes” for manufacture by J. Lattes of Cairo, as well as a Cairo assay mark and silver standard mark, as well as a cat (National Mark used between 1916 and 1946), and date marked “A” (1925-1926), measuring 63.6 mm (w) x 62.5 mm (l) not including its swivel crown suspension, weighing 51.91 grams, with slight flaking on the white enamels, in near extremely fine condition.
This Grand Officer set is accompanied by a presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden frame with dark blue faux leather liner, the exterior of the lid is embossed in golden Arabic with the award name, the interior is lined with an off-white silk liner, marked in Arabic with the award name, the fabric hinge cover fully intact, with a stud-and-clasp closure assembly towards the front, the off-white medal bed is recessed for seating of the award, with scuffs on the exterior from age and storage, in overall near extremely fine condition.
