(Nishan al-Nil). Instituted 1915 by Sultan Husain Kamil. In silver, consisting of ten multifaceted rays, with gilt radiating from centre medallion, obverse presents a white enamelled five armed star with silver gilt centre, reverse maker marked LATTES, Egyptian silver marks denoting 1925-1926 manufacture, measuring 43.0 mm (w) x 64.2 mm (h - inclusive of crown suspension), weighs 25.57 grams, original ribbon, very minor contact to enamels, remains in very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Nile was instituted in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel, to reward persons, military or civilian, who had rendered useful service to Egypt. It was reconstituted under the Arab Republic of Egypt on June 18, 1953, but without the crown. In the Kingdom of Egypt, the Order of the Nile ranked beneath the Order of Ismail.
