Description
(Nishan al-Nil). Instituted in 1915. Hardshelled design on both the lid and base with a blue pebbled exterior on five sides, the bottom with a grayish thatched-look paper covering, marked with the crowned Royal cypher of King Farouk I (Reign: 1936-1952) and trimmed with an ornate border in gold-coloured ink on the lid, inside lid lined in white satin, padded and maker marked "J. LATTES FOURNISSEUR DE S.H LE SULTAN ET DE L'ETAT CAIRE", a white cardboard insert placed within the base and housing a raised platform in cream-coloured felt, with a recessed medal bed for the badge, single clasp closure, measuring 89.5 mm (w) x 126 mm (h) x 30 mm (d), moderate wear and spotting evident on the exterior, wear in the fabric overlying the hinged area, lightly soiled medal bed, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Nile was instituted in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel, to reward persons, military or civilian, who had rendered useful service to Egypt. It was reconstituted under the Arab Republic of Egypt on June 18, 1953, but without the crown. In the Kingdom of Egypt, the Order of the Nile ranked beneath the Order of Ismail.
