Boer War and WWI Group to the Royal Navy
Boer War and WWI Group to the Royal Navy - Queen's South Africa Medal, 1 Clasp - NATAL (151756. W.H. BOX. L.S., R.N.); 1914-15 Star (151758, W.H. BOX, L.S., R.N.); British War Medal (151758 W.H. BOX. L.S. R.N.); and Victory Medal (151758 W.H. BOX. L.S. R.N.). Naming is shaved and privately re-engraved on the QSM and officially impressed on the WWI medals. Cleaned, light contact, mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, contact marks, very fine. Footnote: The QSA has the service number 151756, while the Trio has the service number 151758. The QSA has been re-engraved, likely at the same time as the WWI trio were issued, as the rank of Leading Seaman has been incorporated. He would have been an Able Seaman during the Boer War. The Naval Medal Rolls indicate he was entitled to the Ashanti Medal and the East and West Africa Medal with Benin River 1894 and Brass River 1895 clasps, for service aboard the HMS Widgeon.
