An Early SS Dagger by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen

An Early SS Dagger by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen - Measuring 373 mm in length this SS Dagger is engraved "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" on the blade, magnetic, exhibiting beautiful crossgraining, with the usual in and out runner marks, with semi-sharp edges and a semi-sharp tip. The blade's reverse ricasso is maker marked Carl Eickhorn, Solingen with the company's squirrel insignia inside the inscribed oval, measuring 222 mm in length and rating better than very fine. The reverse of the crossguard is stamped with the District mark "III" in Roman numerals. Nickel plated fittings on the crossguards, exhibiting very light contact and wear. Black wooden handle exhibits chipping on both sides where it butts the lower crossguard, fitting tight on one side. Indentations and contact marks evident throughout the handle but do not interfere with the integrity of the piece. Upper crossguard fits tight on both sides. The embedded aluminum eagle rates extremely fine, while the SS insignia exhibits very light contact, also rating extremely fine. The black painted body is magnetic, exhibiting extensive paint loss and wear from active use but is free of dents. The chape and locket are held firmly in place via two screws each, the ring attached to the locket. The chape displays multiple contact marks, the end of the ball finial has a moderate dent, the throat with a distinct dent, the scabbard measuring 247 mm in length. Very fine. (C:18)
