A South African M1965 Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer's Dress Dagger
A South African M1965 Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer's Dress Dagger - measures 465 mm, with the scabbard on, featuring a 320 mm nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with unsharpened edges and having a semi-sharp tip. It retains its crossgraining, with faint scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, and a natural shine, with scattered surface wear, rating better than very fine. The far ends of the red felt washer at the crossguard junction have been lost to time but the piece that wraps around the blade remains. Crossguard with a detailed spread-winged brass Air Force eagle, resting upon a four-sided frame, its talons clutching the frame below, exhibiting green oxidation, surface wear and contact marks from active use. Dark yellow-coloured celluloid grip exhibits crazing but is free of chipping, the dagger finished with a flat-ended brass pommel, measuring 448 mm in length. The scabbard is plain in design, with a ball finial and two dagger hanger rings, the scabbard measuring 335 mm in length, free of dents but has experienced contact marks and surface wear from active use. Very fine.
