A Second War Italian Fascist Militia "Black Shirts" Dagger

A Second War Italian Fascist Militia "Black Shirts" Dagger -  "Milizia Volontaria Per La Sicurezza Nationale". Measuring 352 mm with the scabbard on, this dagger features a 198 mm nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with a sharp edge, remaining bright and crisp, and having a very sharp tip. The blade exhibits scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, and a natural shine, measuring 308 mm in length, the blade rating near extremely fine. The handle is fabricated from aluminum, designed with a quillon, complemented by black synthetic plates embedded on either side and held in place by a single brass screw. The obverse of the handle has a bronze fasces insignia, while the pommel is fashioned in the form of an eagle's head. A period gold-coloured bullion portapee wrapped around the junction area of the blade and handle, the attached cord and adjustable sliding knot in gold-coloured bullion and black embroidery and free of fabric interruption. Accompanied by its black painted metal scabbard, magnetic, brass ball finial on the chape, the throat plate held in place by two brass screws on the topside, dual dagger hanger bands are embedded into the scabbard's body with rings attached, the scabbard measuring 240 mm in length. The black finished well-stitched dagger leather hangers each have brass clips, the top junction of the hangers with a black leather tab riveted in place with a brass "M" (M Legion) insignia attached, suspended from a large brass belt clip with a bronze gilt eagle sitting upon a fasces insignia affixed to the front. The pommel exhibits contact marks on the end, the adjoining handle with light contact, the scabbard with light contact throughout on the body with a scratched area on the obverse exposing the base, the leather straps showing wear and cracking but remaining relatively supple, the hanger hardware with light contact overall. Better than very fine.
