Norway; Silver, obverse illustrating a Lebanese building above the United Nations insignia, blank reverse, 43 mm, large bronze gilt with red, white and green enamelled Lebanon flag clasp affixed to its original ribbon, suspended from a silvered bronze hanger inscribed "EBL ES SAQI - MARSJEN / NORBATT - UNIFIL", very light contact, near extremely fine. In its cardboard box of issue, blue paper liner slightly undulated, box also near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Norwegian United Nations Battalion in Lebanon (NORBATT) was part of the United Nations Force in Lebanon (NORCO), a section of the UN's temporary force in Lebanon Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Norbatt was created in 1978 and existed through forty-one contingents until 1998. About. 21,400 Norwegians served in NORBATT in one or more contingents and was located in the southeastern corner of Lebanon. On March 22, 1978, Norway responded positively to the UN's request to participate in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The UN peacekeeping forces were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts on December 10, 1988.
