In silvered and gold-coloured rolled and beaded copper wire, illustrating a mayflower within a circular centre, surrounded by the inscription "CAPE BRETON HIGHLANDERS", surmounted by the King's crown, with touches of red, green and blue embroidery in the base of the crown, the previous coat-of-arms of Nova Scotia below, a ribbon banner inscribed with the Gaelic phrase "SIOL NA FEAR FEARAIL" ("Breed of manly men") below the arms, all of which are backed by a large maple leaf, on a black wool base, black paper backer, measuring 95.5 mm (w) x 104 mm (h), free of interruptions in the wire, near extremely fine.
Footnote:The Cape Breton Highlanders is an infantry regiment of the Canadian Army and is part of the 5th Canadian Division's 36 Canadian Brigade Group and is headquartered at Sydney, Nova Scotia. The Cape Breton Highlanders originated on October 13, 1871 in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, as the Victoria Provisional Battalion of Infantry, named after Victoria County. It was redesignated on December 2, 1879 as the Victoria "Highland" Provisional Battalion of Infantry, redesignated on April 9, 1880 as the Victoria Provisional Battalion of Infantry "Argyll Highlanders", redesignated on June 12. 1885 as the 94th "Victoria" Battalion of Infantry, "Argyll Highlanders", redesignated on May 8, 1900 as the 94th Victoria Regiment "Argyll Highlanders", redesignated on March 29, 1920 as The Cape Breton Highlanders, redesignated on November 7, 1940 as the 2nd (Reserve) Battalion, The Cape Breton Highlanders, redesignated on February 15, 1946 as The Cape Breton Highlanders, reorganized and redesignated on September 15, 1954 as the 2nd Battalion of The Nova Scotia Highlanders, reorganized and redesignated on December 9, 2010 as a separate regiment, The Cape Breton Highlanders. The regiment's rebadging ceremony was held on September 10, 2011, and MacKay presented the regiment its camp flag on October 2, 2011.
