Description
Description
(Spomen medalja pobjede (zelenaška medalja)). Instituted in 1920. In bronze gilt with red, white, blue and green enamels, measuring 40.8 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) inclusive its laterally-pierced ball suspension, the obverse with chipping and repair evident in the white enamels in the ribbon banner above the two-headed eagle, otherwise the enamels are intact, original triangular ribbon with hook and eye, better than fine.
Footnote: The Commemorative Victory Medal (Green Force Medal) (AKA Medal to the Right, Honour and Freedom of Montenegro) was instituted on October 18, 1920. It was a decoration awarded by the Ministerial Council of the Kingdom of Montenegro under the presidency of Jovan Plamenac, from 1919 until 1921, to officers and committees that participated in the Christmas Rebellion against the unification of Montenegro with the Kingdom of Serbia. Since the Allied victory in the First World War opened up the possibility of solving the Serbian national question and creating a unified Serbian state, two political groups emerged with different views on the unification of Montenegro and the Kingdom of Serbia. The Great National Assembly of the Serbian People in Montenegro, better known as the Podgorica Assembly, passed on November 13 (26), 1918, with the decision on unconditional unification with the Kingdom of Serbia and the overthrow of King Nikola I Petrović from the throne. Opponents of unconditional unification and supporters of King Nicholas I, who was in exile, with the help of the Italian army that landed on the Adriatic coast with the intention of occupying Dalmatia according to the provisions of the Treaty of London, organized the Christmas Rebellion on December 21, 1918 (or January 3, 1919). The rebellion was put down in just a few days, but in the next two years about 1,700 comitas were active. Smaller comitis groups continued to offer sporadic resistance until 1924, with the last rebels executed in 1929. It is estimated that 2,000 medals were made, however, wearing it in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was prohibited. After the death of King Nikola I on March 2, 1921, the medal was no longer awarded.
