(Eisernes Kreuz 1870 II. Klasse, mit Jubiläumsspange und Wiederholungsspange 1914). Reinstituted 19 July 1870 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. (1870-71 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1870”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 51.59 mm (w) x 46.66 mm (h), accompanied by a 25th Jubilee Clasp, constructed of a silver alloy, the obverse consisting of three overlaid oak leafs bearing a central raised number “25”, the reverse retaining both attachment prongs, unmarked, measuring 25.95 mm (w) x 17.94 mm (h), also accompanied by an unofficial and privately-purchased 1914 Clasp to the 1870 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse consisting of a 1914 Iron Cross overlaid a pebbled and rectangular field, the reverse retaining two attachment prongs, unmarked, measuring 33.21 mm (w) x 12.40 mm (h), minor loss of finish is visible to the core of the cross, which also demonstrates a consistent patina throughout the frame, while the 1914 clasp shows period repair to the attachment prongs, a scarce set to a recipient with lengthy and distinguished service in overall better than very fine condition.
