An Cadet Forces MBE Group to Lieutenant Commander R.W. Luff
An Cadet Forces MBE Group to Lieutenant Commander R.W. Luff - Member of the Order of the British Empire (Military)(MBE); 1939-1945 Star; Atlantic Star; War Medal 1935-1945; and Cadet Forces Medal (TY. LT. (S.C.C.). R.W. LUFF. R.N.R.). Naming is officially impressed on the CFM, the others are un-named. Court-mounted, original ribbons, extremely fine. Accompanied by a duotang folder with his military biography. Footnote: R. W. Luff probably served during Second World World in the Merchant Navy, in early 1944, on Atlantic convoys for at least a year. The fact that he earned the 1939-1945 Star and Atlantic Star but not the Defence Medal, would account for this. After the War, he joined the Royal Naval Reserve as he had likely taken a shore leave but wished to continue in some form of service with the Navy. Luff was granted a commission in the Royal Naval Reserve and posted to a Sea Cadet Corps as an Instructor. He was awarded the Cadet Forces Medal in 1956, for twelve years' service, with his War Service counting double to the earning of the medal. He was named to the rank of Lieutenant on January 10, 1957 and later, Lieutenant Commander on January 10, 1965. He is still shown with the latter rank in 1966 in the Navy List but had not earned the MBE decoration as of yet. Therefore, he must have retired in late 1966 and upon his retirement, been awarded the MBE and later, died in 1971.
