WWII K98 Cleaning Kit

WWII K98Cleaning Kit -This kit is housed in a dark gray steel canister which opens at both ends, magnetic, hinged, with each flap held firmly in place by a brass clip, 85.5 mm x 133.5 mm x 22 mm overall. The flap covering the main compartment is maker marked "G. Appel" and dated "1938". Once opened, it houses four separate compartments, containing one large bore brush (15 mm x 89 mm) and one small bore brush (13 mm x 93 mm), one take-down tool (designed to disasemble the magazine base plate or hold a mop for cleaning the action raceways, maker marked "G. APPEL", 17.7 mm x 100 mm), one aluminum chainlink cleaning tool (measuring 1,400 mm with pull loop at one end) and one oiler (screw lubricant insert end, push spring-loaded exit point, unmarked, 20 mm x 97.5 mm). The small compartment at the other end remains empty. Light exterior wear and moderate denting evident, the interior parts in terrific shape, near extremely fine. Footnote: The Karabiner 98 Kurz (often abbreviated Kar98k, K98, or K98k) was a bolt action rifle chambered for the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge that was adopted as the standard service rifle in 1935 by the German Armed Forces (Wehrmacht). It was one of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles. Although supplemented by semi- and fully automatic rifles during World War II, it remained the primary German service rifle until the end of World War II in 1945.
