WWII Hungarian Artillery Officer's Side Cap
WWII Hungarian Artillery Officer's Side Cap - This side cap has a finely textured, green cotton exterior, the side flaps sewn into permanent position against the body of the cap, the cap itself designed to slope gently towards the rear. The front is adorned with a 30 mm wide cockade at the top, featuring a gilt centrepiece painted with red, white and green horizontal stripes, representative of the Hungarian flag, surrounded by four rows of gold-coloured bullion wire. The cockade overlays four upward-pointing chevrons, in fine gold-coloured bullion wire. The two side panels are joined together at the front via two gilt metal buttons, held in position by dual prongs, each with the traditional Hungarian crown insignia incorporated. The insignia on the left side is an inverted triangle in red wool, traversed by three horizontal rows of gold-coloured bullion wire interlaced with forest green threading, the end of each row tied in a large knot. Inside, the cap has a 37 mm wide dark chocolate brown leather sweatband, fully lined in a grayish-green rayon. It measures 135 mm x 290 mm, lightly soiled exterior, underside of the leather having offset itself against the lining, discolouration and light wear evident in some of the gold-coloured bullion, very fine.
