WWI Regimental Cavalry Competition Album - This album contains forty-seven black and white photographs, illustrating officers in a riding competition, with some photographs showing crowds amassed on the sidelines. There are many views of horse and rider jumping over wood obstacles, some of which are decorated in shrubbery, while others obstacles are mesh or stone. In addition, other views incorporate dressage, revue and on parade, with the last few pages of the album dedicated to horses pulling wagons and carriages, one of the wagons loaded with bails of hay and pulled by two horses. In one of the photographs, there are three civilians and eight officers standing together in the foreground, four of the officers with the Iron Cross First Class adorning their uniforms. Each of the photographs are pasted into position in all four corners, some retaining their exact locations, others having become unglued in some corners but remain in position on their respective pages, while three others have separated entirely, with the photographs that have had their reverses exposed exhibiting notations in pencil. The album consists of twenty-four pages on a thick brown paper stock, with a wrap-around olive green paper cover, inscribed "Concours" (equestrian rating) and date marked in pencil "16.8.19" (August 16, 1919) on the front cover, the last page missing a forty-eighth photograph and inscribed in pencil "10.10.19" (October 10, 1919), while the back cover is stamped with the photograph's stamp but has faded with time, bound with two pins at the spine, 125 mm x 225 mm x 14 mm, light creasing on the cover, the photographs remaining crisp and sharp in detail, near extyremely fine.
