WWI 8th Battalion Officers Cap Badge - CEF

WWI 8th Battalion - 90th Winnipeg Rifles Cap Badge - "The Black Devils". Two-piece construction, white metal ribbon banner inscribed "HOSTI ACIE NOMINATI" overlaying a browning copper base, maker marked "HICKS & SONS LONDON" on the reverse, very crisp detail, 37.3 mm x 45.7 mm, intact lugs, extremely fine. Footnote: The Battalion was raised in Brandon and Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Port Arthur and Kenora, Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Camp Valcartier, Quebec under the authority of P.C.O. 2067, August 6, 1914. The Battalion sailed October 3, 1914 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel L.J. Lipsett with a strength of 45 officers and 1,085 other ranks. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Division. It was disbanded December 15, 1920.
