Spain, Spanish State. A 1960 Commemorative Silver Plaque for the Establishment of the Special Regime of Barcelona
A rare and exquisite plaque commemorating the 23 May 1960 establishment of the Special Regime for the city of Barcelona, constructed of silver and securely riveted to a core constructed of lacquered dark brown wood, the obverse featuring a raised and ornate rectangular frame depicting cherubs and doves, topped by the coat of arms of Barcelona, surrounding a carefully-engraved dedication from the Franco regime acknowledging the city’s newfound status which affords it certain rights and privileges as one of Spain’s two main cities, enacted at the behest of Minister of the Interior and (later honorary) Capitán general Camilo Alonso Vega, a long-time personal friend of Franco who was highly involved in the regime’s security apparatus, the reverse rivet with a silver stand, unmarked, measuring 23.5 cm (w) x 31.5 cm (h), a scarce and historically-significant item in extremely fine condition.
