Reich Protection Police Officer's Visor Cap
Reich Protection Police Officer's Visor Cap - This fine quality cap has three rows of green piping, with the body of the cap fabricated from a green wool, featuring the classic high peak and rounded saddle-shaped sides. It has a brown wool band around its circumference, which supports a two-piece, silvered metal 1st Pattern Police Eagle Cap Badge, with the eagle welded to the wreath. Immediately above on the crown is a cockade, with a painted black base incorporating a silvered ring and red felt centre. The visor is black vulcanfibre with a silver bullion cord above, in two rows, knotted in the appropriate-style on the sides and held in position via pebbled gilt posts on both sides. The underside of the visor is synthetic and finished in tan. The tan sweatband is leather, stamped in black ink "Paul Preuss, Uniform Mutzenfabrik, Stettin, Friedrichsstr.", dated "1940" and size stamped "56" on the underside on the right, with the two ends sewn together with black thread. The dome itself has an off-yellow rayon liner, with a clear moisture shield, with no maker's name nor owner's tag present. Overall, it measures 220 mm x 270 mm x 150 mm in height. The cap has experienced light moth invasion on the brown wool band, minor wear and spotting on the vulcanfibre visor, light sweat soiling on the sweatband and dome liner, edge wear and creases in the moisture shield, in addition to separation of the sweatband from the mid-point on the right side to the rear of the visor itself. However, it continues to exhibit smooth quality in the wool, plus quality workmanship, very clean exterior, maintaining its original period look, very fine.
