Description
1. The Royal Air Force List, April 1918. Hardcover, cobalt blue cloth cover, with dust jacket, entitled "The Royal Air Force List, April 1918 - The First List of Officers of the Royal Air Force Published on the Amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service, 1st April 1918", first published in 1918 by His Majesty's Stationery Office, second edition published in 1985, this edition published in 1990 by J.B. Hayward & Son of Polstead, Suffolk, printed in Great Britain by Ipswich Book Company, Ltd., ISBN 0-903754-46-0. As stated on the dust jacket: "This book is a reprint of the first official list of the Royal Air Force (with their dates of seniority), published on the amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service, 1st April 1918. The general and branch lists include: Aeroplane and Seaplane Officers, Dirigible Officers, Kite Balloon Officers, Observer Officers and various other classifications. The work is fully indexed. This is an essential reference source for those engaged in aeronautical research of a biographical nature." The book contains 432 pages of text, printed in black ink, on an off-white paper stock, measuring 137 mm (w) x 216 mm (h) x 30 mm (d) and exhibits foxing on the top of the pages.
2. The Royal Air Force List, October 1940. Hardcover, cobalt blue cloth cover, with dust jacket, entitled "The Royal Air Force List, October 1940 - The Official Air Force List for the Battle of Britain Period, August-September 1940", first published in 1940 by His Majesty's Stationery Office, this edition published in 1990 by J.B. Hayward & Son of Polstead, Suffolk, printed in Great Britain by Ipswich Book Company, Ltd., ISBN 0-903754-45-2. As stated on the dust jacket: "It is appropriate that the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain should coincide with the republication of "The Air Force List, October 1940". For this volume lists the commissioned officers and warrant officers of the Royal Air Force and other related personnel who served during this critical period, August-September 1940. The Gradation Lists (by branches) include: General Duties (Air Gunners and Air Observers); Technical Branch (Engineers, Signal Officers and Armament Officers); Balloon Branch; Administrative and Special Duties Branch (Intelligence, Marine Craft and other duties). The volume also lists Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service, Reserve of Air Force Officers, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, etc. The volume is referenced by a nominal index. During the Second World War, the classified official lists were quite often destroyed on receipt of the updated version the following month and consequently original copies are quite rare, available only in some of the larger reference libraries. The republication of "The Air Force List, October 1940" not only helps to fill that vacuum for research purposes, but also provides a commemorative tribute to 'the few'." The book contains 698 pages of text, printed in black ink, on an off-white paper stock, measuring 140 mm (w) x 216 mm (h) x 43 mm (d) and exhibits foxing on the top of the pages.
The two volumes together weigh 1.5 kilograms. Near extremely fine.
Reference Guide Shipping Policy: An additional shipping charge may be applicable following the time of purchase due to size, weight, and quantity. Please note that books cannot be shipped via Canada Post Flat Tracked method.
