Queen's South Africa Medal, Private J.H. Forbes, Thorneycrofts Mounted Infantry - (9873 Pte J.H. FORBESTH'CROFT'S M.I.). Naming is officially impressed. Very crisp detail, light contact, replaced suspension, near extremely fine. Footnote: Private J.H. Forbes was wounded at the Battle of Spion Kop on January 24, 1900. The battle was fought 28 km west-south-west of Ladysmith on the hilltop of Spioenkop along the Tugela River, Natal, South Africa, January 23 - 24, 1900, between the South African Republic and the Orange Free State on the one hand and British forces on the other, during the campaign to relieve Ladysmith in the Second Boer War and resulted in a British defeat.
