Purple Heart; officially numbered 267664, extremely fine. With original Award Document for the 38th General Hospital, May 24th 1944. Footnote: Purple Heart awarded to John R. Cooper, Seaman 1st Cl. 8646381, US Navy Armed Guard, recieved wounds 16th April 1944, when German U-Boat U-407 torpedoes U.S. Freighter Meyer London, 17 miles off Derna, Libya. Survivors, including John R. Cooper were rescued by French manned MHS La Malouine before Meyer London sinks.
