MacIntyre attested for service with the colours on February 17, 1900. He completed the short service (one year with the colours). He then enrolled as a pirate with the Royal Army Medical Corps, at the age of 21. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMacIntyre sailed for South Africa, and was active in the Boer war from March 12, 1901, resulting in seeing action in Cape Colony as well as the Orange Free State. Initially he was attached to the No. 10 General Hospital at Norvals Pont, a small village situated on the junction of the Northern Cape, the Free State and the Eastern Cape borders. From here he moved to the No. 9 General Hospital in Bloemfontein on January 7, 1901. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOn July 1, 1901, he was appointed as a second class orderly. He was discharged on August 8, 1901 on termination of his period of engagement, having served for a total of 150 days. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMacIntyre stayed on in South Africa after his disengagement, and his next records show passat to Sotuhampton from Cape Town aboard the “Athlone Castle”, docking in the United Kingdom on April 2, 1948.
