A. Warren. Composed largely of experienced colonial horsemen, the regiment served as mounted infantry, undertaking reconnaissance, scouting, convoy escort, and patrol duties in support of British columns operating across Natal, the Orange Free State, and the Transvaal. The unit was actively employed during the later guerrilla phase of the war, participating in sweeps and "drives" designed to intercept Boer commandos, protect lines of communication, and secure the countryside. Like many colonial mounted corps, Warren's Mounted Infantry provided the mobility and local knowledge essential to British operations during the final stages of the conflict and earned a reputation for effective service in difficult terrain against elusive Boer forces.

https://www.emedals.com/products/united-kingdom-a-queens-south-africa-medal-to-pte-jj-van-rensburg-warrens-mounted-infantry-m0712-38
