He was entitled to the Natal clasp. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe 1st (Royal) Dragoons served throughout the Second Boer War as part of the British Army's regular cavalry forces in South Africa. The regiment took part in the early operations in Natal and the Transvaal, including the relief of Ladysmith and General Buller's advance into the Boer republics. Subsequently employed in reconnaissance, screening, and pursuit operations, the Royal Dragoons participated in numerous actions against Boer commandos during the guerrilla phase of the war.
