During the campaign, the N.D.M.R. carried out reconnaissance, patrol work, convoy escort, and rapid mounted movements through the rugged valleys and hills of the region, where rebel forces under Bambatha kaMancinza and allied chiefs operated.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe unit formed part of the wider colonial force tasked with locating and dispersing rebel groups, protecting communications, and supporting regular and police columns in the field.
