He served in the Army Veterinary Corps (service number 6402), beginning on June 26, 1915. He later served in the Labour Corps (service number 704116) as a corporal.

The Army Veterinary Corps played a crucial but often overlooked role during World War I. At a time when armies still depended heavily on horsepower, the Corps was responsible for the care, treatment, and management of hundreds of thousands of horses, mules, and other animals used for transport, artillery, and supply. Veterinary officers and enlisted men worked in challenging conditions close to the front lines, running mobile clinics and hospitals to treat wounds, disease, and exhaustion. Their efforts kept vital supply chains moving and ensured that the army’s reliance on animal power remained sustainable throughout the war.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0713/9105/2053/files/yO7891WfhYPQFp3HDETHHJjw7OAf9NMRh6HFHGKc.jpg?v=1779392044
https://www.emedals.com/products/united-kingdom-a-first-war-trio-to-pte-sands-army-veterinary-corps-m0715-8
