He joined the NSDAP in June of 1928. The highest rank in the organisation that he reached was Ortsgruppenleiter (Local Group Leader). Between 1928 and 1932 Beister was also a member of the SA. In 1940 Beister joined the Wehrmacht, specifically the Heer (Army) branch. At the end of the war he was an NCO of the Artillery. After being released from US war captivity back to Germany, Beister was sentenced to 4 months in prison in 1948 for having been part of the Führer Corps of the NSDAP.
