The blade is textbook Robert Klaas U-9 pattern (unique to this maker), depicting the famous U-9 in a conspicuous manner, on the reverse of the etched blade; the other areas of the blade are further decorated with floral motif, while bottom of the blade features Robert Klaas trademark; the obverse of the blade features in the center a fouled anchor, flaked below by the battleship, while top and bottom of the blade are further decorated with floral motif. The equality of the etching, detailing and plating is outstanding; overall, the blade grades extremely fine plus. Gilded brass lightning bolt scabbard retains approximately 98% of the factory fire gilding, and is dent free. Overall, this dagger grades extremely fine plus. The U-9 Navy Dagger by Robert Klaas is quite rare, with less then 100 believed to be produced. The actual purpose behind this dagger is still a mystery; however, many in the collecting community believe these were produced for Officers who previously served with the Imperial U-Boot arm.
