An Army Officer’s Sabre, By Wlaszovits","description":"A rare and extremely well-preserved Slovakian Army Officer’s sword, measuring 900 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a curved 725-mm long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and with fullers running down the length of each side. The blade features dual marks, with the obverse ricasso bearing a maker’s mark of “WLASZOVITS, ŠTOS” for the firm of oseph Wlaszovits, circumscribing the company’s logo. The reverse ricasso is stamped “ČET”. The blade sits securely within a highly-stylized semi-basket hilt, constructed of silvered bronze and bearing finely-detailed linden leaf designs, completed with a raised Slovak coat of arms, on the exterior. The handle grip consists of a ribbed black rayskin-style material, wrapped with an original length of twisted and rolled copper cord, with the structure maintained by a magnetic metal crossbar completing in a flattened pommel. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of polished magnetic metal. It features two integrated and flattened bands on the shaft, each retaining an integral loop. The loops connect to a period original hanger, consisting of two strips of brown leather, each adorned on the obverse with multi-coloured machine embroidery and adjusted with functional bronze buckles. The straps connect to a non-ferrous polished metal hook which features a functional spring catch for uniform attachment. Wrapped around the hilt of the sword is a period original portepee, constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire and completing in a stylized acorn with a red wool centrepiece. Minor issues consistent with age and use are evident, and include some oxidation and running marks to the blade, with minor oxidation of the other metal components and slight fatigue of the leather hanger.
