Constructed of gilded silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Latin Cross with white enameled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular oak leaf wreath executed in green enamels with brown enameled acorns, the obverse overlaid by a central white enameled medallion bearing a raised and gilded profile of Duke Albert III, surrounded by a blue enameled ring bearing a gilt inscription of “ALBERTUS ANIMOSUS” (“ALBERT THE BOLD”) with arabesque latticework, the reverse overlaid by a central white enameled medallion bearing a raised Saxon coat of arms executed in gilded silver with multi-coloured enamels, surrounded by a blue enameled ring bearing a gilt institution date of “1850” with arabesque latticework, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an ornate crown suspension culminating in an eyelet and loop which retains a period original full length of neck ribbon, the six o’clock arm maker marked with the logo of Saxon court jeweller G.A.
