Instituted 5 December 1841 by Prince Konstantin of Hohenzollern-Hechingen and Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. (1941 and subsequent issue). Constructed of silver with Gold and multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a four-painted radiant starburst, overlaid by a central Gold medallion, with a white enameled centrepiece bearing a hand-painted Hohenzollern coat of arms with gilt highlights, situated within a blue enameled ring bearing a gilt inscription of “FÜR TREUE UND VERDIENST” (“FOR LOYALTY AND SERVICE”), joined together at the bottom by a laurel and oak leaf wreath executed in green enamel with gilt highlights, the medallion topped by Gold crossed swords (indicating a “Swords on Ring” variant), the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, with a single visible rivet and nut securing the swords in position, maker marked “JUWELIERE GEBR. HEMMERLE VORM.
