Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a black wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 72 mm (w) x 34 mm (h). The interior is fully encompassed by a black cotton\/rayon-blended liner. Stitched onto the left side of the liner is a label bearing a maker’s mark of “LANDESLIEFERUNGS-GENOSSENSCHAFT ‘AGO’ FÜR HESSEN”, indicating manufacture by a firm associated with a consortium of manufacturer based in Hesse, a manufacture date of “1939”, a size mark of “57”, a unit code of “LB.A.(S.) 40”, and a partially-legible handwritten owner’s name.
