A well-preserved Kriegsmarine Junior Officer (ranks Leutnant-Kapitänleutnant) summer visor cap. Of multi-piece construction, the lower half consists of a sturdy reinforced side wall lined on the exterior with a ribbed black mohair cap band, trimmed along both the top and bottom edges with dark blue wool piping. The crown is topped by a white cotton\/rayon blended cloth liner, with a protruding and vertically-oriented stabilizer to maintain the structural integrity of the peak of an accompanying cover. Pinned onto the peak is a gilded aluminum Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 25 mm (h) and maker marked on the reverse with the logo of F.W. Assmann \u0026amp; Söhne, Lüdenscheid. Stitched onto the centre of the cap band directly below the eagle is an insignia consisting of a padded dark blue wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered gold bullion wire oak wreath surrounding a tri-colour cockade, measuring 70 mm (w) x 60 mm (h). The lower edge of the cap band is flanked on each side by gilded magnetic metal buckles rich retain an original two-piece black leatherette chinstrap A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is topped by a layer of smooth dark blue wool and trimmed along the edge with a scalloped gold bullion wire tresse. The interior is encompassed by a white rayon liner, with the crown retaining an intact transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard, while a brown leather sweatband surrounds the walls. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 24.5 cm (w) x 28 cm (l) x 13.5 cm (h).
