A Dark Blue Service Jacket for a Torpedo Mechanic Gefreiter

(Kriegsmarine dunkelblaues Überzieher für einen Gefreiter - Torpedomechaniker Laufbahn). An extremely well-preserved Kriegsmarine dark blue service jacket, constructed of dark blue wool cloth with a pronounced whipcord weave. It features a turned-down collar which is reinforced on the reverse with machine-stitched darts. The collar is flanked by tabs which are constructed of dark blue wool with buckram cores, each measuring 40 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). Stitched onto the upper left arm is an insignia consisting of a dark blue wool backer bearing a golden-yellow celleon wire chevron, indicating a rank of Gefreiter, in turn topped by a golden-yellow embroidered Torpedo Mechanic specialist device, measuring 90 mm (w) x 115 mm (h). Stitched onto the upper right breast is an insignia consisting of a dark blue wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered golden-yellow Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 100 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Stitched onto the left breast is a cloth version of the DRL Sports Badge, constructed of black rayon with golden-brown machine embroidery, measuring 48 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). Two threaded loops adjacent to the former allow for the addition of a badge with a vertical pinback. The tunic closes with five gilded brass buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left, while four decorative buttons of identical construction are stitched onto the left for aesthetic symmetry. Notably, all buttons are maker marked on the reverse with the logo of noted Kriegsmarine metal insignia manufacturer J.M. Maedicke, Berlin, with the exception of one replacement button maker marked for Josef Feix & Söhne, Gablonz. Stitched through the top buttonhole is a ribbon for the 1939 Iron Cross II Class. The interior is fully encompassed by a dark blue wool liner, with a similar whipcord weave, which incorporates two breast pockets. Unmarked, the jacket measures approximately 43 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 56 cm, and an overall length of 66 cm. One button has detached from the left breast, but is retained, while the jack itself demonstrates only minor signs of wear and fatigue, and remains in a near extremely fine condition.

https://www.emedals.com/products/germany-kriegsmarine-a-dark-blue-service-jacket-for-a-torpedo-mechanic-gefreiter-g63219
