A Prussian visor cap for Artillery, Engineer, and Railway troops, constructed of dark blue wool. It features reinforced side walls which are fully lined on the exterior with a smooth black wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the band are trimmed with red wool piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is a tri-colour cockade executed in zink with a wool centrepiece, measuring 23 mm in diameter. Directly below, the centre of the cap band is pinned with a silvered brass cockade with a red wool centrepiece, similarly measuring 23 mm in diameter. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in black on the obverse and in white on the reverse. The interior is encompassed by a multi-piece white cotton-blended cloth liner, while a wide whitened leather sweatband surrounds the side walls. The crown bears a handwritten owner’s surname of “HUNNEMANN”. Measuring approximately 24 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 14 cm (h). Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some material fatigue to the base wool, scratching of the visor, and soiling throughout the interior liner with additional minor fatigue and warping to the side walls.
