He entered into army service on December 12, 1914 and was stationed solely on the western front during the First War. Adrian was promoted to Gefreiter (lance corporal) on October 14, 1918. The same day, he was taken prisoner by the English. Adrian was discharged from service on July 9, 1919. He was redrafted on August 25, 1939 and promoted to Feldwebel (sergeant) on March 1, 1940. Adrian took part in the campaign against France, but beyond that there is no further information.
