A Heer M40 Stahlhelm (steel helmet) shell, constructed of a single sheel of magnetic molybdenum steel. Three eyelets are distributed around the outer circumference for the inclusion of rivets with liner pins for the accommodation of the interior fixtures, all of which have been lost to time. The crown is flanked by integral ventilation holes, while the rim shows crimping throughout the edge of the skirt. All marks have been rendered illegible, and the shell measures approximately 22.5 cm (w0 x 28.5 cm (l) x 15 cm (h). In addition to the absent fixtures, the shell demonstrates loss of paint and oxidation throughout its entirety, with a significant hole to the top of the dome consistent with shrapnel damage.
