A well-preserved Heer M35 Stahlhelm (steel helmet), constructed of a single sheet of magnetic molybdenum steel which retains the vast majority of its original apple-green paint. Three rivets are distributed around the circumference of the shell for the accommodation of the interior fixtures, while the crown is flanked by ventilation holes which are reinforced with crimped metal grommets. Directly below the left vent, the helmet features a decal in the form of a black shield overlaid by a silver-grey Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 32 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The skirt is fully crimped, providing a smooth edge throughout the rim. An aluminum ring surrounds the interior, fixed in position with the shell rivets, and retains a brown leather liner which culminates in eight fingers, each perforated with five ventilation holes and an additional top eyelet through which is looped an original drawstring. Aluminum loops descend from the sides of the ring for the accommodation of a chinstrap which has been lost to time. Stamped onto the right side of the skirt is a code of “SE64”, indicating manufacture by Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke, Lauter, with a shell size of 64. A partially-legible heat code is also visible on the back of the skirt. The helmet measures approximately 23 cm (w) x 28 cm (l) x 15 cm (h). Issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and include minor loss of shell paint resulting in some surface oxidation, slight loosening of the shell rivets, and a tight fit to the liner possibly indicating period replacement.
