He was employed as a Bank Clerk when he enlisted with the 45th Battalion on October 4, 1915 in Winnipeg. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe arrived in England via the S.S. Lapland in March 1916. He was taken on strength by the 31st Battalion in the field in May. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and left leg in mid July was considered dangerously ill while at No. 17 Casualty Clearing station.
