He emigrated to West Vancouver, B.C, and was employed as a labourer when he enlisted on March 27, 1916. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAuton served with the 1st Canadian Pioneers following his debarkation in Shorncliffe in May 1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal in the field in May 1917. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh in September of the same year. Auton was reported killed in action while serving with the 9th Canadian Railway Troops on October 23, 1017.
