He enlisted with the 147th Grey Battalion in February 1916. He arrived in England via the SS Olympic in November 1916, and joined the 58th battalion in April 1917. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe suffered a shell fragment wound to the left thigh on October 27, 1917 and was admitted to the No. 11 Stationary Hospital in Rouen. He was discharged on December 17th. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn February 1919, he suffered from Scarlet Fever.
