He was a sailor when he was drafted under the military service act in October 1918. He was taken on strength in November 1918 with the 259th Battalion Siberia. He embarked from Canada in Mid December, and arrived in Siberia on January 12, 1919. Roy was demobilized in May 1919, and returned home via the S.S.
