He was a carpenter with service experience in the Mounted Infantry Militia. He enlisted on April 16, 1916 in Saskatchewan. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHe arrived in England in April 1917, and was taken on strength from the 229th Battalion. He was transferred to the 15th reserve battalion, and then the 46th battalion. In June 1918, he was granted a Good Conduct badge in the field. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHe suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg on August 13, 1918. He was admitted to the 3rd West General Cardiff Hospital, and moved to multiple hospitals over the following 6 months. He was invalided to Canada in May 1919.
