He was employed as a Caretaker in Toronto when he initially enlisted on September 23, 1914 at the age of 44. He was married with ten children. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe served overseas as an orderly to Major Dicton at the First Canadian Casualty Clearing Station . In September 1916, he was classified as “C” aged (overaged) and transferred to England, ultimately being discharged. His second enlistment date was January 15, 1917, where he states he had 28 months of experience with the #1 Casualty Clr. A.M.C as a private. He was back in Liverpool in May, 1917. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eCrane’s discharge certificate of March 12, 1918 states that he was medically unfit to continue service. However, he enlisted again on the same date, with his papers stating he had previously served with the Forestry Draft for 1 year, and with the C.A.M.C. for 2 years and 5 months. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe was discharged June 5, 1918 due to senility.
