The Kingdom itself was re-established in 1993. The Order of 1948-1970 was originally awarded to mark the Royal Crusade and the return of independence in 1953, the two triumphs of King Sihanouk, originally in three grades, that was expanded to five grades in 1950: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
