Though compact due to budget limitations, she served as the fleet flagship during peacetime and boasted a top speed of 20.5 knots with a main armament of four 24 cm guns. During World War I, she served in the III Battleship Division and spent most of the conflict blockaded at Pula, though she notably participated in the bombardment of Ancona in 1915 and helped suppress the Cattaro mutiny in 1918.
